“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 6:12 NAU)
If there was any uncertainty that what has been going on in our country is spiritual rather than political, those doubts should, by now, be dispelled. When members of BLM chant, “F*** your Jesus,” as happened in Charlotte recently, what is going on has become very clear. At this point, they aren’t even attempting to hide it. The chant started out: “Cops killed Jesus,” but that quickly changed into a direct attack on Christianity. One thinks of Jeremiah 6:15: “‘Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; They did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time that I punish them, They shall be cast down,’ says the LORD.” (NAU) The sad part is, it will not end well for those who are doing these things, especially eternally.
But Ephesians 6:12 reminds us of something else. The members of BLM are not the enemy. Rather, the spiritual forces that lie behind the movement are the true enemies. The source of the wickedness, darkness, and evil are the spiritual forces in heavenly places. We need to be praying for those who were chanting that slogan, and others in BLM, ANTIFA, the arsonists setting fires, lying politicians (of both parties) and others, that God would bring them to a place of repentance. We need to remember that “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Cor. 4:4 NAU). At present they are following the actions of their spiritual head. Jesus described that head as “a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (Jn. 8:44 NAU). Only by the power of Jesus Christ can they be freed.
