The thread itself, dealing with the hopes that someone will start manufacturing new reel to reel tape decks for music mixing and mastering is of no importance for us.

“Anyway, my janitor is great: not only does he keep the house and garden in meticulous shape, he also regularly helps to chase away party people, pimps, crooks and thieves, churchgoers, drug dealers, the police etc. when i unload expensive equipment late in the evening or early in the morning; he also knows a lot more about bikes, for example, than i do! oh, and did i already mention that he's also my landlord?”
In the post, who are Christians, or rather the more generic “church goes” (who may or may not truly be Christians), compared to? At least for “ddy”, church goers are lumped in with drug dealers, pimps, crooks, thieves, and the police, all of whom are clearly nasty undesirables, most of whom (all?) prey on others. Note: I’m not sure who “party people” refers to: are we talking typical roudy party goers or political party types?
Why does this post matter? One might raise the objection that this is, after all, only the view of one person posting on a music gear related website, a website generally frequented by more liberal “creative” types. But, it is a good reminder of how an ever-growing segment, and arguably now the majority of people in our secular culture, view Christians: similar to criminals, those who prey on others, undesirable.
I’m reminded not only of numerous vitriolic quotes against Christianity by the late creative genius Frank Zappa, 1940–1993, but also the wholesale rejection of biblical tenets by the once-solid seminary I attended, among other “biblical” institutions and denominations. Even many who self-identify as “Christian” want little or nothing to do with genuine biblical Christianity.
The good news is that God remains faithful, and is still at work in people’s lives. As Christians, it is key that we remain faithful to God, and to His revealed Word in the Scriptures. We must trust Him, and rest in His presence and strength, regardless of what may happen. Endurance matters.
