The Mahdi is in trouble, or so it seems. The Dajjal has appeared, and Eesa is needed to defeat him. As Allah is directing the flow of events, Eesa’s timing is perfect (indeed for many Muslims, Allah has predetermined all events, both good and evil).

The Mahdi’s army will go to prayer, and as they are about to pray, Eesa will return, holding the wings of two angels. Many hadiths say Eesa will return at a minaret in Damascus—a costly minaret Christians had to build at a mosque, others say he will return at Jerusalem, or possibly somewhere in Jordan.

The Mahdi will offer to let Eesa lead the Muslims in prayer, but Eesa will insist that the Mahdi do it, and place himself under the aurthority of the Mahdi. Eesa will then go out and kill the Dajjal, catching him at the Gate of Lud, believed to be in Lydda in modern day Israel.

Eesa then kills the 70,000 Jews that followed the Dajjal. Stones will cry out to him, using the title in Arabic, Roohullah, or “Spirit of God” (other versions do not necessarily use that title) telling him that Jews are hiding behind them, and to kill them. In other versions, the stones cry out to Muslims in general, all of whom are given power over the Jews to fight and kill them. There are also references saying that the Dajjal himself is also a Jew. In Islam, the Jews are by far the most evil people group on the planet (we will discuss why Islam has such hatred for the Jews in a future series).

After this Eesa will remain on the earth for forty years, a just ruler and Imam. Interestingly, other hadith say he will be on earth for only seven years, like the Mahdi. The suggested solution to the contradiction is not based on the Qur’an but the Bible(!)—as that is where Jesus’s approximate age is given—as Jesus was about thirty-three when Allah took him up into heaven without dying. Thirty-three plus the seven equal his total human life of forty years. It will be a time of great plenty, he will make the hajj to Mecca, sometime after which he will die. He will be buried in Medina in the chamber of the Prophet.

During his reign, lions and camels will lie down together as will leopards with cows, wolves with sheep, while a child will play with snakes (another biblical plagiarism). One cannot help but notice how much in Islam is based on the supposed “corrupt” Old and New Testaments. One must ask, if the Bible is corrupt as Islam insists, why is so much of the Qur’an dependent upon it?

What else will Eesa do during his time back on earth?

He absolutely comes back as a Muslim. Indeed according to one hadith, a person is to desire the hellfire more than being guilty of committing the sin of assigning partners to Allah. One of his first actions will be to break the crosses and kill the pigs. His actions are typically interpreted as destroying the Christian Church and literally killing pigs, as Christians eat pork while Jews and Muslims do not. Historically, whenever Muslims conquered an area they would destroy Christian crosses and church bells, most often razing various churches (and synagogues).

All Jews and Christians must convert to Islam at this point, as Eesa will have demonstrated that he is not the Christian Savior, but just a dedicated human messenger, a slave of Allah. In essence, he appears to be acting primarily as a religious figure, while the Mahdi is more of a political figure.

Arguably, there could be a more sinister meaning to that phrase. First, some of the verses in the Qur’an describe Allah turning some of the Jews into pigs, monkeys, and apes: 5:60; 2:65–6; 7:163–6. Second, Eesa kills, in many of the hadiths, the Jews in conjunction with the Dajjal. Third, any Jews or Christians who refuse to convert to Islam, having seen that Jesus is a Muslim, will be killed.

The same fate awaits all who refuse to convert. Eesa’s rule will reflect a pure sharia. He will abolish the jizya: there will no longer be any need for it, since every living person on the planet will be a Muslim. Once more we see him ruling on religious topics. What can be said is that Eesa and the Mahdi will work together and a universal caliphate will at last be established.

Yet at this point, more trouble is about to be unleashed. As we will see in the next post, the destructive hordes of Yajooj and Majooj will come.
