For Muslims, what is the solution? In the previous post, we summarized numerous issues we’ve uncovered during this series, including some disturbing things about Muhammad’s prophetic career.

We can find the answer by looking at a key attribute of God, and compare how the Qur’an describes Allah, to how the Bible describes the God of the Old and New Testament. That attribute is love. In looking at love, we are not talking about how the slaves of Allah in the Qur’an are required to love him, nor how God’s children in the Bible should love Him, but how God loves.

Qur’an 3:31 (Pickthall): Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Qur’an 3:57 (Pickthall): And as for those who believe and do good works, He will pay them their wages in full. Allah loveth not wrong-doers.

Side note: The rewards, i.e. the pleasures of Paradise, are considered a payment of wages. Contrast that with Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Consider also Romans 4:2–5: “For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’ Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.” In essence, Muslims are earning Hell.

Getting back to the primary topic:

Qur’an 3:140 (Pickthall): If ye have received a blow, the (disbelieving) people have received a blow the like thereof. These are (only) the vicissitudes which We cause to follow one another for mankind, to the end that Allah may know those who believe and may choose witnesses from among you; and Allah loveth not wrong-doers.

Qur’an 5:87 (Pickthall): O ye who believe! Forbid not the good things which Allah hath made lawful for you, and transgress not, Lo! Allah loveth not transgressors.

Many surahs could be cited. Allah has as much to say about those he does not love as about those whom he does. For those he does love, his love is strictly conditional based on what that person does or does not do. Nowhere is Allah’s love unconditional. As we’ve seen, one is only Allah’s slave. Performance is everything. Since Allah, by definition, is not a father, but One, a monad, high above every created being, any sort of family love is out of bounds.
