God’s will for our lives is found in the Scriptures. We get so caught up in the details of our day to day lives that that becomes our focus. Yet God’s main goal is to prepare us for life in eternity, to make us more and more like Jesus Christ.
In addition, the most important safeguard regarding answers we may think God is giving us via prayer is Scripture. If a supposed answer to prayer doesn’t line up with Scripture, that supposed “answer” isn’t from God. God won’t contradict His Word. For example, Jesus’s words will never pass away. Heaven and earth will, but His words will not.
Psalm 119 has much to say regarding the importance of God’s word.
Psalm 119:11 (NAU): “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”
Psalm 119:16 (NAU): “I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.”
Psalm 119:28 (NAU): “My soul weeps because of grief; Strengthen me according to Your word.”
Psalm 119:38 (NAU): “Establish Your word to Your servant, As that which produces reverence for You.”
Psalm 119:41–42 (NAU): “May Your lovingkindnesses also come to me, O LORD, Your salvation according to Your word; So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me, For I trust in Your word.”
Psalm 119:50 (NAU): “This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has revived me.”
Psalm 119:81–82 (NAU): “My soul languishes for Your salvation; I wait for Your word. My eyes fail with longing for Your word, While I say, “When will You comfort me?”
Psalm 119:74 (NAU): “May those who fear You see me and be glad, Because I wait for Your word.”
Psalm 119:101: “I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word.”
Pslam 119:105 (NAU): “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:130 (NAU): “The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”
Many more verses could be cited. As we see in Psalm 119, God’s word applies to every aspect of our lives.
