According to Islam, what signs precede the final chain of events that will end in the Day of Judgment? In the previous post, we discussed a few of the minor signs that indicate that the end is drawing near. Here are several more, including a few from a Shia perspective.

Earthquakes will increase and time will converge (appear to speed up?). There will be so much wealth that giving any of it away will be impossible.

People will compete against each other in building tall buildings.

Women will be dressed but appear naked, strutting about. Their destiny is the hellfire.

People will leave Islam in droves.

Muslims will be weakened by other nations. Although there will be many Muslims, they will hate fighting.

Knowledge of Islam will decrease, ignorance will increase, and as a result, fornication will spread, along with the use of alcohol (the use of alcohol is forbidden in Islam).

Those who have neither good character nor religion will have much wealth.

Authority will be given to those who do not deserve it.

Children will be coarse, liars believed, and the treacherous trusted, while the trustworthy will be deemed liars. Homosexuality and lesbianism will abound.

Many hadiths state that due to wars and killing, along with other possible factors, there will be very few men: fifty women will typically be under the care of one man.

Here are some signs from a Shia perspective:

People will learn the Qur’an for reasons other than for Allah. Speakers will preach piety, but their lives won’t reflect it.

Houses will have a ‘mirror’ that would show views from far away and people would carry musical instruments (sources of music?) in their pockets, as well as play music in mosques (music is forbidden in Islam).

The young and Inexperienced will be given key positions in government., while fathers will be content with their children indulging in all sorts of sin.

Dead bodies will be insulted and desecrated without objection.

Returning to Sunni narratives:

Just before the Dajjal appears there will be three terrible years, each one worse than the previous. In the first year, Allah will order the sky to withhold one-third of its rain and vegetation is reduced by one-third. In the second year, two-thirds of the rain and vegetation is withheld, and in the third year, all rain is withheld and all vegetation dies. While severely tested, Muslims can escape by saying how perfect Allah is, and that all praise is due Allah. As a result of saying those things, Allah will flow through them like a flow of food. For non-Muslims, the famine will be catastrophically severe.

In this horrendous, world-wide situation, the Dajjal will emerge. The Mahdi will come and shortly after that, Eesa will return.

But, before continuing with the Islamic prophetic chain of events, two questions need answering: who is the Mahdi, and who is Eesa?
