A Growing Apostasy? Part 2
Buddhism and science. That may seem like a strange pairing. The one is viewed as being spiritual, if not mystical, and the other is seen as being very concrete, that no reality exists either outside or beyond the material world.
Yet, the Dalai Lama has written that science and Buddhism have much in common. Although Buddhism pursues meditation and inner introspection, it prefers to do so in an empirical detached method, just as science does in its pursuit of knowledge. Even more important, according to the Dalai Lama, both prefer to move forward on the basis that God does not exist.
For many, that will make a compelling combination. One can simultaneously be spiritual and acknowledge the truths that science uncovers, all while avoiding the “God” question. God, as portrayed in the Bible, can be ignored. Even better, the world of particle physics appears to mesh quite well with many of the teachings of Buddhism. Indeed, numerous books have been written linking the world of quantum physics to the world of mysticism.
Biblically speaking, these trends do not bode well. I am currently deep into research for my third book, tentatively titled “Hope in the Midst of Judgment.” One of the marks of a nation under God’s judgment is a massive increase of false teachers and false beliefs. We will delve more deeply into that issue in the next post.
