What conclusions can we reach about “The Passion Translation” (TPT)?

“The Passion Translation” should not be used, period. It will, as it claims, open readers up to new “spiritual insights,” but those insights will not be from the Holy Spirit, but from demonic spirits that proclaim a false gospel and propound lies. Contrary to Simmons, God alone is God, we are not, nor do we carry Christ as Mary did.

It is no accident that Simmons wants people to bypass their minds, to lay aside critical thinking. If someone follows the Bereans, and searches out to see if what Simmons teaches, and what is recorded in TPT are true, that person will reach the conclusion that Simmons is a false teacher and TPT, while having aspects of truth, is in the end a lie, a false “Bible”.. A “Berean” will find that Simmons lies about his qualifications, the website lies about the methodologies used, TPT lies about which words have been added to the text. Lying is the one constant.

For someone to appear as an “angel of light,” whether it is Simmons himself, or the “Jesus” that appeared to him in his visions, or the angel Passion that is over his ministry, there needs to be at least an element of truth. A person is more likely to swallow the arsenic if it is in the Kool Aid, as the followers of Jim Jones did, than if it is offered straight-up.

TPT is a sectarian Bible, not unlike the “New World Translation” of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. TPT changes the text to fit the teachings of NAR and can be used to legitimize their aberrant views. As we have already noted, the NAR is in essence a cult group. We have also noted how the spiritual experiences and methodologies of Brian Simmons parallel those of Joseph Smith.

But, unlike Joseph Smith’s Book of Mormon, TPT is available from Christian bookstores. The sobering question is: What will come next? With the way the TPT has gained acceptance as a legitimate Bible, even though it is the thoughts of a channeled demonic spirit, one can easily imagine that an even worse version will be forthcoming (perhaps the “revolutionary” John 22 that Simmons mentioned?). If the Christian community, or at least segments of it, accept TPT, what will they accept next? As the real Scriptures declare, in the latter days people will give heed to doctrines of demons. TPT is a painful case in point.

One irony: the name of the publisher of TPT is BroadStreet. If one is devoted to TPT, if one embraces NAR, there is a grave danger of following the broad way that Jesus states leads to eternal destruction.

In conclusion, if ever there was a “Bible” that looked like a lamb but was a wolf, it is “The Passion Translation”. Do not read it, certainly don’t use it as the basis for any Bible study. If you are in a church where the pastor insists on using it, leave. At all costs, avoid “The Passion Translation”.
