What does Simmons teach and believe? We’ve looked at some of his questionable beliefs in the previous post. In this final quote, we enter the world of the outright bizarre.
Simmons: “I’ve found the antichrist. Deal with it. Ha Ha. Get him out. Stop being in love with your tradition, opinion and your understanding of the Bible that’s so shallow and so like feeble…. We’ve not unlocked the deepest places of spirit life in us where we bring healing because of a touch… we’re the seed of Christ, the 42nd generation. We complete the genealogy of Jesus. Christ is no longer a man, he’s a people. You and I carry like Mary, we will bring forth the Christ, the second coming is the becoming of the Lord.”
Comment: First, what is meant by “the 42nd generation”? It comes from a mystical view of Matthew’s genealogy. It relates to a special generation that somehow lies between Jesus and the Christ, a generation when Christ is fully formed in the body of Christ, a generation that carries the Christ anointing (another NAR code word) and is instrumental in bringing about Jesus’s return. Given what Simmons professes after that remark, the interpretation makes sense.
We looked at his unusual interpretation of Revelation in the previous post, that Revelation has nothing to do about “end times” but is strictly about a believer bringing everything in his or her life into subjection to Christ. Note his concluding remarks:
Simmons: “We complete the genealogy of Jesus. Christ is no longer a man, he’s a people. You and I carry like Mary, we will bring forth the Christ, the second coming is the becoming of the Lord.”
Comments: What can one say? It appears that Simmons is saying that the genealogy does not lead to Jesus, but rather to us instead. Christ is not a man, but a people? That takes us directly back to the lie in Genesis 3, that we will be as God. Our becoming god-like brings about Jesus’s second coming, of Christians taking dominion over the entire world (another aspect of NAR teachings and beliefs).
What can one say? As the Scriptures declare, in the last days many will lay aside the truth and embrace doctrines of demons. They will have a form of godliness but deny its power. The visons Simmons has had are demonic, the “Jesus” he saw was demonic, the “heavenly library” he visited was demonic. I believe his teaching is demonic, and The Passion Translation is rooted in the demonic.
