According to the NAR, what must happen within the Church to enable Jesus Christ to return? They insist that the timing of Christ’s return depends on us.

Contrary to Scripture, where the restoration of all things rests upon Christ’s return at a time set by the Father, for the NAR, all things must first be restored to the church before Christ can return. The army of saints, the Bride of Christ, must fully mature and arise in a glorious ministry far greater than in the days of the book of Acts. The five-fold offices must be fully operational. As we’ve seen, the NAR believes that the long-lost prophets and apostles have now returned. Signs and wonders must be produced at a greater level than was found in the early church. Most of the world will be converted through those signs and wonders.

But not everyone will convert to Christianity. According to the NAR, in the final battle that is to come, everyone will be possessed. No exceptions. A person will either have the spirit of Christ living in them or be the host to a demonic spirit. As the battle between the army of saints and the army of the demon possessed is underway, Christ will return.

Christ then transforms the army of the saints into their eternal state. They can no longer be killed from that point on. The Church becomes immortal and therefore will prevail over those who are possessed by demonic spirits. Oddly, the gist of this teaching showed up earlier, within Mormonism. Hamon admits that what he is writing was generally found by many to be heretical, even though it is in fact, now known to be true.

For the NAR, in essence the church accomplishes, as the Bride of Christ, what Scripture indicates Christ will do upon his return. The church becomes the Church Triumphant. Since it is the Bride of Christ who does all these things, Christ is still glorified. Their view has quite a bit in common with amillennialism in so far as it is the church that brings about Christ’s return.

One cannot help but notice how humans are front and center in all these prophecies, not Jesus Christ. One sees miracles, signs, judgments—lots of judgments—submission to authorities, and then a worldwide Christian utopia brought about through the church. God’s love? If it is present, it appears to be very much in the background. Granted, this period of time, even biblically, is more a time of God’s judgment.

Another problem with their view is how they compress the events of the book of Acts. Does Acts record that the apostles, through Christ, did many miracles? Yes. But what is missed is that the events recorded in Acts took place over about a 30 year period. When keeping the actual time frame of Acts in mind, the recorded miracles were not as constant as the NAR wants to insist.

What is even stranger, to me at least, is that these new NAR revelations and prophecies sound eerily similar to the end times events predicted by Islam, only it is the Christians conquering their demonically driven adversaries to arrive at a worldwide utopia rather than the Muslims doing the same to establish the worldwide dominance of Allah. In both scenarios, Christ/Isa returns after the conflict has started and enables victory. In the NAR, the church is prominent, in Islam the Mahdi is prominent.

What are we, as Christians committed to the literal interpretation of Scripture, to make of all of this?
