Have we been captivated by NAR teachings? Their teaching about the end times, and the triumph of Christianity can look especially seductive.

In the previous post, we saw that God will raise up an army of saints who will walk in the miraculous. Prophets and apostles will be restored and take their rightful authority over the nations. Christians will seize the seven mountains of influence. A worldwide Christian utopia will result.

How do we know this is “true”? How will it happen?

The events have been prophesied and taught by many of the second apostolic age apostles and prophets, the restored church of the NAR. Hamon speaks of how he established worldwide prophetic networks, interlocking organizations, and other ministry accomplishments. As of 1997, he had personally received 100,000 prophetic confirming words. His writings are endorsed by numerous NAR leaders, including Cindy Jacobs, C. Peter Wagner, Richard Shakarian (Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International), the late Oral Roberts, as well as other worldwide apostles and leaders. We are not looking at the writings of one outlier individual. Many other NAR prophets and apostles speak of similar accomplishments.

Hamon, in 1997, hinted that Christ might return sometime around 2030. He was smart enough not to state that directly. In a later work, he revised that prediction, stating that Christ would probably return within the next couple of generations, but with caveats: 1) the timing of Christ’s return hinges on the obedience or disobedience of the church in getting itself ready; 2) since the Father knows everything, He knows when that will take place.

That revision is even more concerning. Contrary to what Jesus stated it looks like the date of Christ’s return is not set by the Father (Acts 1:7). Rather, the nearness or distance of Christ’s return rests upon us as the Church. If Christ’s return is delayed it is due to the church’s failure to obey—as defined by NAR prophets—the prophetic words that must be fulfilled during the end-times of their so-called second apostolic age.

The basis of their belief is found in Acts 3:19–25, but especially verses 19–21 (NAU): “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.

The passage indicates that Christ’s return is the time of the restoration of all things. But that isn’t how NAR prophets and apostles interpret the verse. For them, everything must be restored before Christ can return. The restoration isn’t about Jesus Christ, it is about the church. So, according to the NAR, what must happen?
