Whom Do We Listen To? Part 9

Jezebel. Sadly, in our day much of the church has been overrun by Jezebels. Liberal churches have been especially hard hit. One think of the United Church of Christ (UCC), the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA), the Episcopal Church, the United Methodists, and others.

How many of those churches teach that sexual sin is ok, that one can engage in a wide variety of sexual practices? In these denominations, these types of teachings are the norm: one must not oppose them. Similarly, one must support abortion: our modern equivalent to the infant sacrifices practiced in the worship of Baal and Molech.

It is true that God does give us free will, and therefore we can choose to embrace whatever sexual lifestyle we desire. It is another thing entirely to teach that God sanctions and approves of those choices, lifestyles that God has repeatedly declared to be sin, lifestyles that have dire consequences.

There is an unfortunate correlation between denominations that ordain women as pastors and denominations that subsequently come to teach that sexual immorality is ok. At a later point they take the next step of ordaining those actively involved in LGBTQ lifestyles. Typically, the higher the percentage of female pastors, the more liberal the denomination becomes.

For example, within the ELCA, the change is well documented. As previously blogged about, the Lord’s Prayer has often been rewritten as a prayer to the Mother/Father God, or the mother goddess. God, who is biblically self-described as Father, is nowhere to be found. Wicca is sometimes openly proclaimed.

One also thinks of the self-described public theologian Nadia Bolz-Weber, a former “pastrix” within the ELCA. As previously blogged, she heartily endorses sexual freedom. As recounted in her book “Shameless,” she asked women to send her their purity rings, and gave them in exchange a certificate granting the right to live in shameless sexual freedom, She then had the rings melted down, turned the gold from those rings into a sculpture of a female sex organ, and then gave that sculpture to Gloria Steinem.

Biblically speaking, it will not end well for those who advocate for, or follow, the Jezebel path in our day, just as it didn’t end well for those who refused to repent in Thyatira, as well as for Jezebel, herself. God is clear, live that type of unrepentant sexual lifestyle, and one’s destiny will be eternal separation from God in hell. Far better to repent, and live.

Thus, some of the serious problems on the “liberal” side. In contrast, for the most part, biblical Christians reject the temptations of the “left,” the Jezebel teachings and inclusive “Christianity.” But, for biblical Christians, there is arguably an even more seductive and greater temptation: the teachings of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). We will examine some of the serious issues within the NAR in the next series of posts.
