The Glorious Future of the Middle East

From the river to the sea… how often do we hear that from various places all over the world? From Islamic countries in the Middle East, to Europe, to American college campuses and rioters, there is seemingly no escape from it. Incidents of antisemitism have increased exponentially. According to many, Israel is to be annihilated.

The good news is that the future won’t see the destruction of Israel “from the river to the sea.” Rather, God has foretold that we will see a “highway of holiness” (see Isaiah 35:8).

Isaiah 19:21–25 (ESV): And the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day and worship with sacrifice and offering, and they will make vows to the LORD and perform them. And the LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing, and they will return to the LORD, and he will listen to their pleas for mercy and heal them. In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”

Where does the highway run? It will go from Assyria to Egypt. The location of Egypt we know. But, where is the ancient realm of Assyria? It was primarily in Iran and parts of Syria.

What does it mean? At some point in the future, the Egyptians will worship the one true God, not Allah. So will those in Syria and Iran. Look at what God says: “Egypt my people,” and “Assyria the work of my hand.” There will come a time when those areas will not be under the Islamic thumb. Also consider: in ancient times Assyria was one of the most evil and cruel empires the world ever knew. God is going to change that.

God has much to say about difficult times to come, the time of Jacob’s trouble, the great tribulation. That event will happen first. Ezekiel also prophesies an invasion of Israel from that region. Biblically, there is every indication that things will get far worse prior to their getting better. But the good news is that ultimately, Islam will not triumph. Islam, and their world-wide allies, especially from what is becoming known as “Eurabia,” as European nations and the EU ally themselves with Islam, will not succeed (see Psalm 2). The Jews will not be wiped out; God, the true God, not the one who calls himself the greatest of all deceivers, i.e. Allah, will be victorious.

Romans 11:26 (NAU): And so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.” See also Hebrews 8:8–10. Note that these promises are found in the New Testament; at no point have God’s promises to Israel been annulled.

The good news is that Israel will have a glorious future, as will Egypt and Assyria. While Islam may dominate the world for a time, ultimately in eternal terms, their agenda will fail.
